A teenage boy was hospitalized after he was shot in the leg at Courtney Manor Apartments in Jacksonville’s Ortega area Tuesday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO’s Sergeant Richardson says at approximately 12:40 a.m., officers responded to the apartment complex, located at 5620 Collins Rd., in reference to the teen being shot.
Police say a witness took the boy to the hospital and that he is “stable.”
“It’s still early in the investigation, we have limited information at this time,” Richardson said. “The information that we do have is that the juvenile was walking in the area when he heard a single gunshot, and then he noticed that he had been struck once in the leg.”
Detectives also responded to the apartment complex, Richardson told First Coast News, as they were canvassing the area for surveillance video and spoke with witnesses.
JSO says there is currently no suspect information available.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
