Possible electrical fire engulfs flood-damaged Fort Myers Beach vacation rental

Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a fire at a vacant rental property on Fort Myers Beach early Tuesday morning.

According to the public information officer, reports of smoke and flames came in around 9 a.m. from a home at 24 Fairview Boulevard.

Crews from the Iona-McGregor, Bonita Springs, and Fort Myers Beach Fire Control Districts were dispatched and extinguished the blaze in just under two hours.

Fire officials believe the fire was accidental, with an electrical issue being the suspected cause.

The home had been flooded and vacant since recent hurricanes, and no repair work had been conducted since the storm, though it still had power.

No injuries were reported, and the fire remains under investigation.
