Retired NYPD cop crashes golf cart after drinking at country club

A retired officer from the New York City Police Department crashed her golf cart after drinking at a country club in The Villages.

AME, 55, who lives in the Village of Amelia, was arrested Thursday on a warrant charging her with driving under the influence.

The warrant was issued after a Feb. 13 crash which occurred at about 9 p.m. in the area of Devonshire Way and Onslow Court, not far from E’ home, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, E was found laying in the middle of the road and bleeding. She told deputies that she lost control of her golf cart and crashed. She admitted she had taken a turn too fast and fell out of the golf cart because she was not wearing a seatbelt. She handed a deputy her retired identification card from the New York City Police Department.

E said she had gone to dinner at Havana Country Club and had been drinking. There were several indications she had been driving impaired.

She was transported by ambulance to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital, she was asked to provide a blood sample, but refused. She was not immediately taken into custody, but a warrant was issued for her arrest.

After she was taken into custody Thursday, she was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
