Road closed after car slams into pole in east Orlando, killing 1 person

One person is dead after a car slammed into a pole early Thursday morning in Orlando.

Florida Highway Patrol said troopers responded to the crash just after 3:30 a.m. at Avalon Park Boulevard and Timber Springs Boulevard.

FHP said a Hyundai sedan crashed into a pole killing the driver. A passenger in the car was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation, FHP said.

Northbound and southbound lanes on Avalon Park Boulevard are currently blocked. Traffic is being diverted at Waterford Chase Parkway.
