A ruptured gas line in an attic accelerated a fire at a home in The Villages.

The Villages Public Safety Department was dispatched Saturday to a reported residential structure fire in the 5500 block of Parkyn Path in the Village of Linden. Dispatch advised that the reporting party observed flames and smoke coming from the rear of the residence and noted the presence of solar panels on the roof.

Firefighters quickly descended on the scene and concluded no one was inside the home.

“Upon arrival, fire conditions were rapidly extending throughout the attic and roof system. Crews deployed multiple hose lines and conducted an aggressive blitz attack to bring the fire under control following an extended operational period. Extensive overhaul and roof operations were completed to ensure full extinguishment and eliminate any remaining hot spots,” said Robert Ramage, deputy chief of operations for VPSD.

He added that the prompt actions of the first-arriving units prevented further fire extension to nearby structures and mitigated the potential for loss of life. There were no injuries.

The residence sustained extensive roof damage and significant water damage throughout the home.

Preliminary findings indicate the fire was accidental in nature, with a possible electrical origin.
