A 53-year-old Sarasota man is dead following a car crash on Bee Ridge Road in the early hours of Sunday, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The crash happened around 8 a.m. near the intersection of Bee Ridge Road and Honore Avenue when the 53-year-old driver in a Dodge pickup truck crossed the center median and collided with the left side of a sport utility vehicle. Investigators believe the man had a “medical event” prior to the crash, according to a FHP report.
The Dodge pickup was traveling westbound in the left lane on Bee Ridge Road approaching the intersection of Honore Avenue, while the utility vehicle was traveling eastbound in the right lane, according to the report. The pickup then crossed the median and continued driving until crashing into the utility vehicle.
The 53-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene by Sarasota County EMS. The second driver, a 40-year-old Port Charlotte woman, sustained minor injuries, according to the report.
The Florida Highway Patrol traffic homicide unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
