A Palm Beach County teenager was arrested in connection with the robbery of a 13-year-old boy who was attacked while walking home from school in Lake Worth Beach.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said F, 18, was arrested on a charge of robbery without a firearm or weapon, a second-degree felony. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on July 23 and is being held without bond, jail records show.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the investigation began March 11 after deputies responded to a reported robbery near South B Street in Lake Worth Beach.
According to investigators, a 13-year-old boy told deputies he was walking home from school when two suspects riding electric scooters approached him from behind. The victim said one suspect grabbed a gold chain from around his neck while the second suspect pushed him to the ground and attempted to search his pockets before both fled on scooters.
Detectives later reviewed surveillance video from cameras in the area. Investigators said the footage showed two male suspects on electric scooters traveling toward the area where the robbery occurred and fleeing moments later. The second suspect was seen wearing clothing matching the description provided by the victim, according to the affidavit.
During the investigation, detectives also reviewed Real Time Crime Center footage that showed a silver Ford Expedition near the scene around the time of the robbery. Investigators later determined the vehicle was associated with F and an address on South C Street in Lake Worth Beach.
On March 24, a Palm Beach County School District police officer identified the second suspect in a law enforcement bulletin as F, investigators said.
A photo lineup was later shown to the victim. While the victim did not make a positive identification, he told detectives the individual in position No. 2, F, resembled the suspect who attacked him, according to the affidavit.
Detectives also interviewed an employee at Lake Worth High School, who said he had known F for about two years and saw him on a near-daily basis. After reviewing the identification bulletin, the employee immediately recognized F as the person depicted as the second suspect, investigators said.
Based on the victim’s statement, surveillance evidence, vehicle information and witness identifications, detectives concluded there was probable cause to believe F participated in the robbery.
An arrest warrant was issued March 31. F was taken into custody on July 23, according to jail records.
