‘Screaming all the way down’: Woman dies after being pushed from moving truck fleeing Daytona police.

The Daytona Beach Police Department is investigating the death of a woman after she was thrown from a fleeing vehicle on Tuesday.

According to DBPD, police were searching the area of Segrave Street, Madison Avenue and North Street related to a stolen motorcycle. While searching for 45-year-old suspect Julio Angel Rivera, officers came into contact with a woman who was able to lure the suspect to the area.

For unknown reasons, officers say the woman got into a white GMC truck Rivera showed up in. When officers approached the vehicle, they said it fled with many occupants.

Barbara Smith, who was sitting on her porch on Vera Street, saw the truck speeding down her street and heard the woman screaming for help.

DBPD says the woman was killed when Rivera pushed her from the moving vehicle at the 600 block of Madison Ave.

One officer stopped to aid the unresponsive female. The woman was transported to Halifax Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

“She had the back door open, and she said, ‘help! help!'” Smith said. “I said, ‘jump! jump!’ and then they kept going and he sped up faster because the police were right behind him. She was screaming all the way down.”

Other officers continued to pursue and search for the suspect vehicle. DBPD says that the suspect evaded officers and abandoned the vehicle at 5th Street and Coquina Avenue.

After several hours of searching, the suspect was taken into custody.

“That’s terrible, to push them out of a speeding truck, that’s terrible,” Arthur Smith said.

Two people have been arrested in connection with this case. The driver of the truck for fleeing and eluding and Rivera for first-degree homicide.

At this time, Rivera is not in jail but instead the hospital. Police say he swallowed a handful of pills before they took him into custody.

A third person was arrested. While searching a house connected with the homicide, a man there had a warrant for possession of meth.
