Search continues for suspect in I-95 hit-and-run crash that killed 15-year-old

A 15-year-old driver was killed Sunday night in a crash on I-95 northbound near J. Turner Butler Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The agency added that the driver of the other involved vehicle, a white Honda Civic, ran from the scene and remains unaccounted for.

According to the crash report, the 15-year-old was driving a black Toyota Tacoma north on I-95 with a 16-year-old passenger beside them around 9 p.m. Sunday.

FHP said the truck was then hit from behind by the white Honda Civic, which caused the Tacoma to roll over and injure the 15-year-old, who would later die from his injuries at the hospital.

Neither teen was wearing a seat belt nor was the vehicle’s passenger injured, FHP said.

As of 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, police have not released any more information about what the driver of the Civic looks like.

It’s the third time in October that a teenager was involved in a deadly crash on a Jacksonville roadway. A 17-year-old Ed White Senior died two days after she was struck in a hit-and-run crash on Blanding Boulevard.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is encouraged to contact law enforcement.
