A man is dead following a road rage incident in Riverview on Sunday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Around 2:15 p.m., HCSO received a 911 call about a man shot on Highway 301 and Bloomingdale Avenue.
Deputies said they found a man suffering from “upper body trauma” at the scene. The man died at Brandon Regional Hospital after being transported.
“We do believe this is to be a road rage through witnesses account. It looks like a vehicle had basically cut another vehicle off, and an altercation happened here, which led to this shooting,” said Casey Minuto with Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
HCSO said witness interviews revealed the person responsible had fled the scene.
“There is never a justification for an altercation to end in violence,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our detectives are fully committed to this investigation, and we will ensure that justice is served for the victim.”
Anyone with information is being asked to call detectives at 813-247-8200.
The investigation is ongoing.
