The northbound lanes of Interstate 95 are closed in Brevard County after a fatal crash on Thursday afternoon, Florida Highway Patrol says.

The crash happened at mile marker 232 north of Deering Parkway in Mims just before 2:30 p.m.

A semi-truck with a trailer “struck the inside shoulder guardrail, and became engulfed in flames,” FHP said.

The driver was pronounced deceased on-scene, FHP said.

“The sequence of events that led to this crash are still under investigation,” FHP said.

Another vehicle was involved, but the driver and passenger were not injured and remained at the scene.

FHP advises drivers to seek an alternative route.: Motorists traveling on northbound I-95 should take exit 231 to Deering Parkway (C.R. 5A), turn left onto U.S. 1, then turn left onto State Road 442 (Indian River Boulevard) to reach I-95.

Nearby, a brush fire sparked, burning 20 acres. It’s unclear if the crash caused the brush fire.
