Sheriff: Former Hillsborough deputy throws bottle at woman's head in road rage incident

A former Hillsborough County deputy, and current employee with Hillsborough County Public Schools, was arrested in a road rage incident on Monday, according to the sheriff’s office.

It started at 12:45 p.m. on April 6 on Bell Shoals Road in Fish Hawk.

A woman and her two teenage kids were in a car heading southbound on Bell Shoals Road when they approached a red light at the Fishhawk Boulevard intersection. When the light turned green, the car in front of them failed to move, prompting the woman to honk her horn, investigators said.

As both cars turned onto Fishhawk Boulevard, the passenger of the other car — identified as 47-year-old former deputy BP — reportedly began yelling at the woman.

At the next red light at Mosaic Drive, P threw a bottle at the woman, hitting her in the head, according to the sheriff’s office.

The woman was left with a raised contusion and an abrasion from the impact of the bottle.

After an investigation, P was arrested and charged with throwing a deadly missile at or into an occupied conveyance.

“This type of violent behavior is absolutely unacceptable, especially from someone who once wore a badge,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said.

The sheriff said P was employed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office from 2003 to 2016.

“There is no excuse for escalating a traffic dispute into an act that caused injury to an innocent driver. No one is above the law, and we will hold individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their past or current affiliations,” Chronister continued.

The investigation is ongoing.
