Sheriff: Man stabbed 77-year-old Milton woman to death in front of husband, blamed God

A 31-year-old man stabbed a 77-year-old woman to death last week in front of her husband inside their Milton home, according to Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson.

WEAR News reported Sunday that TW had been arrested in Suwannee County for the murder that occurred on Jan. 20 in the 5200-block of Old Oak Road in Milton.

WEAR News obtained W’s arrest report and spoke with Sheriff J on Monday about the murder.

The victim has been identified as 77-year-old LR.

According to the report, Reed’s husband told deputies that he and his wife were recently acquainted with White through a mutual friend. For the past couple of months, they let W live in a camper on their property as he tried to “get back on his feet.”

The report states W had regular access to the main house as long as the husband or Reed were present.

The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 20.

According to the report, the husband said he and R were sitting in their living room watching TV when W entered the house and — “without any provocation” — began attacking the woman with a butcher knife. R suffered multiple stab wounds, including a wound to the head.

The report states the husband immediately began tending to the woman’s wounds. The husband told deputies he then heard W say something along the lines of “I did what you wanted” and “God told me to do this!”, according to the report.

The husband wrapped his wife in a blanket and took her to the Santa Rosa Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

The day after the murder, deputies put out a BOLO for W, who Sheriff Johnson said stole a vehicle from Industrial Boulevard in Milton. He was eventually located in Suwannee County where multiple agencies tracked him down and arrested him.

White will be extradited to Santa Rosa County for the murder.

Jail records show that W has been arrested seven times in Santa Rosa County since 2011.

Recently, he was arrested in August 2023 for grand theft of a vehicle, weapon offense and weapon possession by a convicted felon. He was sentenced in August 2024 to one year in jail (credit for time served) and two years’ probation.

Santa Rosa County deputies then arrested W in October 2024 for probation violation. He was released from jail on Jan. 8, less than two weeks before the murder.
