One person is dead and another is injured after a Walton County shooting on Wednesday morning.

The sheriff’s office says the shooting happened on Pinehurst Drive in Santa Rosa Beach at 10:20 a.m.

“Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Pinehurst Drive in reference to a civil matter,” deputies say. “While on scene, a civil process deputy arrived at the same residence for a pre-scheduled eviction notification.”

Just as deputies were leaving the home, gunshots were heard inside. One gunshot victim died on the scene. The other was shot in the leg and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“No deputies were involved in the exchange of gunfire,” according the sheriff’s office. “All parties were known to each other and have been detained at this time. This is believed to be an isolated incident.”

The shooting is under investigation now.

This is a developing story.
