Deputies with the Alachua Sheriff’s Office (ASO) said a person is dead. They spent the afternoon gathering statements from neighbors and witnesses.
Officials said they got the call around 3 p.m. Sunday in the Westchester Manor neighborhood near 7700 Southwest 4th Place, south of Newberry Road.
Deputies said on social media they detained the woman who they believed to be the shooter.
Authorities told TV20 that when they arrived at the home, they performed CPR on the male victim until fire rescue arrived.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead, authorities said.
Some nearby intersections were shut down while transporting the victim to the hospital.
Deputies said they are still trying to figure out why she shot him.
“We’re still really early on in our investigation,” LS, ASO public information officer said. “Our detectives are here, Forensics is here, collecting evidence, and we also have victim advocates here to talk to different people if they were traumatized by this incident at all.”
This is a developing story that will be updated as information becomes available.
