Silver Springs man fires gun outside home after vape pen argument with girlfriend

A Silver Springs man who got into an argument with his girlfriend over a vape pen is facing several charges after he allegedly fired a revolver outside a local residence.

On Monday, October 21, multiple Marion County Sheriff’s Office units responded to a local neighborhood in reference to shots being fired. While searching the 18000 block of SE 19th Street, several deputies located a man, identified as 24-year-old Logan Matthew Jones, who matched a description of the suspect, according to the arrest report.

After being detained in handcuffs and read his Miranda rights, Jones allegedly admitted to firing a shot into the ground because he was upset with his girlfriend, identified in the report as the victim in this case. An MCSO corporal noted that Jones informed law enforcement of the location of his silver revolver, which was found inside a nearby home.

During the post-Miranda interview, Jones advised that he had been arguing with the victim over a vape pen that she “refused to give” to him. When the victim exited the residence, which is where the argument occurred, Jones stated that he “opened the front door and shot into the ground out of anger,” according to the report.

The victim spoke with law enforcement and advised that Jones had fired a shot into the ground near the “front porch area” while she was walking away from the home. A neighbor heard the gunshot and called 911, informing the dispatcher that Jones was observed “(running) out the back of the residence.”

The corporal noted that one spent shell casing was found in the revolver, along with four live rounds. In the report, the corporal estimated that the nearby residences were “approximately 25 to 35 feet away from where (Jones) fired the gun.”

Jones was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and firing a weapon in public or on a residential property.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
