Small plane with 2 on board crashes in Mount Dora, police say

A small plane with two people on board crashed in Mount Dora on Sunday, according to police.

The small twin-engine plane was piloted by 61-year-old E P, who was accompanied by a 17-year-old passenger.

The Mount Dora Police Department said the crash occurred around 11 a.m. due to engine trouble on the left side.

As the plane banked left, it crashed through the trees, spun around and landed in a body of water in the Lakes of Mount Dora.

The pilot was taken to a hospital with a broken collarbone while the passenger suffered minor scratches, according to police.

The crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
