Thursday morning, authorities responded to the scene of a fire at ZooWorld.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office says around 5 a.m., a deputy in the area spotted smoke coming from the facility. Officials responded quickly, moving animals away from the flames.
BCSO, Panama City Beach Fire Rescue, Panama City Beach Police Department, and other agencies responded to the scene.
Front Beach Rd. was closed from Allison to Joan but is now open, and the fire is under control.
ZooWorld Panama City Beach has released a statement announcing it will be closed due to fire damage.
BCSO has given NewsChannel 7 an update that some animals did not survive.
“The zoo will be closed while our teams assess and plan repairs to structures damages this morning by a fire located just behind the gift shop building.
At this time, we are working with the appropriate authorities to understand what happened. The safety of our animals, staff, and guests is our top priority.
