A Lady Lake man was arrested after allegedly hitting his father in the face when he refused to sell him an engine part for $1,000.
Officers responded to a battery involving 25-year-old DMR and his father at an undisclosed business in Leesburg around 8:40 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
The father advised that he was selling an engine part from one of his personal vehicles that he had for two years to R, who offered $1,000 for it. He felt the part was undervalued and declined R’ offer, which started an argument. Refusing to continue the dispute, he tried to leave the area to walk his dog, the report said.
Upon turning his body to leave, the father was struck in the face multiple times by R. He could not remember how he was hit due to everything happening so fast, but he sustained a small scratch on the left side of his cheek and the left side of his nose. There were also small bruises on the bottom area of his chin and around his bottom lip as well as a cut behind his right ear, the report said.
A witness stated he saw Rand his father arguing with one another outside the business. The father told R to leave, but he ignored the instructions. He instead hit the father from behind when he started to leave his office. The witness intervened to separate the two, and R left in an unknown vehicle, the report said.
When asked to speak with R, the officers were told he left before they got there. They were able to call him around 9:30 a.m., and he advised that he would be enroute to the police department to give a statement, the report said.
R was ultimately arrested at the LPD around 9:35 p.m., when he was charged with battery (domestic). He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
