A fire broke out at a home on Thursday morning as residents were taking their children to school, Lake City firefighters said.
First responders stopped the spread of the fire on Northeast Webster Avenue just before 9 a.m.
The residents said they returned to find their home covered in flames.
Officials determined the cause of the fire was a space heater left on. Lake City Assistant Fire Chief Ret Tompkins said they “urge everyone prioritize safety when using alternative heating methods.”
