Spring Hill man fatally shoots wife before turning gun on himself: deputies

A man and his wife are dead after Hernando County deputies say he shot his partner before turning the gun on himself at their Spring Hill home.

Just before 6:30 a.m. on Monday, a witness who also lived at the home on Philatelic Drive called 911 to report the shooting.

According to the witness, 45-year-old Bryan Guthrie, and his wife, Pattie Guthrie, got into an argument. When the witness left the home, she heard a single gunshot. She ran back inside to find Pattie on the floor outside of the master bedroom, bleeding from a gunshot wound.

When deputies arrived, they forced their way inside and found Brian dead, lying on the floor of the master bedroom next to a handgun, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators said when the couple’s argument escalated, Brian took out the handgun and shot his wife, before turning the same gun on himself.

If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, call 911, Hernando County’s 24-hour Crisis Hotline at 352-686-8430, or visit the Dawn Center of Hernando County’s website for resources.
