A teacher is facing a charge for driving under the influence after Hernando County deputies said he crashed his car in the school parking lot.
Deputies were called to Explorer K-8 in Spring Hill around 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12 after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a teacher at the school, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
A school resource deputy was the first on scene. Authorities said the deputy found PS, 32, unconscious behind the steering wheel with his vehicle still in gear.
S had crashed into a fence located in the rear parking lot of the school, according to officials. Several “empty single-serving alcohol containers” were also seen within his reach, deputies said.
The teacher was taken to a hospital for evaluation. A deputy noted smelling alcohol on S’s breath while trying to interview him at the hospital.
The deputy tried several times to get S to consent to a blood draw, but he refused, according to officials.
S was cleared by the hospital, and charged with DUI upon his release, according to the sheriff’s office.
This is the second time S has been charged for driving under the influence, authorities said. He was previously arrested on a DUI charge in 2014 in Broward County.
S was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center. His bond was set at $1,000.
