A five month old baby was seriously injured after it got caught in the middle of a domestic dispute that turned physical.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) says on Thursday, at about 10:56 a.m. they were notified by a detective from the Fort Pierce Police Department that a five month old infant was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Deputies say the medical evaluation revealed the baby was found to have a fractured skull, along with bruising to its arm and leg.
The investigation revealed that the baby became caught in the middle of a domestic dispute between the suspect, GH, and the female victim.
Deputies say H allegedly tried to strangle the victim during the dispute. The victim was able to break free, retrieve the baby and tried to run to a bathroom for protection.
As the victim tried to close the door Hayes began throwing punches, several of those punches landing on the baby resulting in its injuries.
H was arrested and booked on felony counts of domestic battery by strangulation and aggravated child abuse, deputies say.
H is currently being held at the St. Lucie County Jail.
