St. Pete man accused of DUI, crashing into FHP patrol car in I-75 construction zone

A St. Petersburg man was arrested after driving under the influence and hitting a Florida Highway Patrol car on I-75 early Thursday morning.

Around 2:48 a.m., a Chevy Blazer, driven by VD, 50, was traveling northbound on I-75 in a construction zone that was marked with arrow boards, signage, and orange cones with reflective tape, FHP said.

D entered the work zone where an FHP Corporal in a marked vehicle with emergency lights on was stationed and crashed into the back of the patrol car.

The FHP Corporal was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

FHP said D was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. After his release, he was arrested for DUI, DUI property damage, and DUI personal injury.
