St. Pete officer pulls 1-year-old from man trying to run into traffic: police

A St. Petersburg man was accused of putting a 1-year-old girl in danger after snatching her out of his girlfriend’s SUV on Thursday.

St. Pete police said TM, 21, pulled in front of the SUV on 34th Street South, using his bicycle to prevent it from moving.

He climbed into the backseat and put his hands around his girlfriend’s neck, attempting to choke her, according to an arrest report. Police said he battered one of her family members, told everyone in the vehicle that he was going to kill them, and then snatched the baby out of the SUV.

M was accused of running from police, passing by multiple homes before running into traffic at the intersection of 34th Street South and 15th Avenue South with the baby on his shoulders.

An arrest affidavit initially said he threw the baby off his shoulders, and an officer caught them as they were falling to the ground.

A later release from St. Petersburg police said “officers pursued him, and an officer was able to run behind him and grab the child’s legs and pull her from his back. The child was not hurt.”

Video posted on TikTok appears to corroborate the latter account of events.

“(M) intentionally tried to run into traffic with his child in an attempt to kill himself and the child,” the arrest report stated.

M was charged with aggravated child abuse, burglary with battery, false imprisonment, resisting an officer without violence, battery on a person 65 years of age or older.
