St. Pete sex offender followed 3 kids around park, asked if he could touch himself, police say.

A 57-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after police said he followed three young children at a Pinellas County park and started making inappropriate comments.

According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, officers were called to a “disturbing incident” at Helen Howarth Park, located at 6301 94th Avenue North.

Witnesses told police they saw a man, identified as Joseph Veltre, 57, of St. Petersburg, following three children at the park and making inappropriate comments. They said he asked the children if “he could masturbate in front of them.”

Veltre was taken into custody and charged with child abuse, aggravated stalking of a child under 16, and traveling to meet a minor.

At the time of his arrest, the 57-year-old was on bond for a lewd and lascivious exhibition to an elderly adult or disabled person. He is also a registered sex offender, police said.
