Student injured after being struck by vehicle near Cooper City High School

A collision near Cooper City High School left a student with life-threatening injuries after they were struck while riding a scooter.

The accident, which occurred at 9471 Sterling Road just after 8 a.m. Monday, prompted an immediate response from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies. When first responders arrived at the scene, they reportedly found an injured young man.

Paramedics transported the juvenile to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

7Skyforce was over the scene capturing a significant amount of blood on the road, alongside scattered notebooks.

A red Tesla sustained considerable front-end damage with a dented hood and a broken front window. The driver of the Tesla remained on the scene.

Broward County Public Schools said the child who was struck is an 11th grader at Cooper City High School.

Another collision in Miami-Dade a young man was fatally struck by a car as he jaywalked after getting of the bus. Despite medical personnel’s best efforts, he did not survive.

As a result of this incident in Broward County, Sterling Road is shut down in both directions between Palm Avenue and Southwest 90th Avenue.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit responded to investigate what led to the collision.

In response to the jaywalking incident, Miami Gardens Police Detective Diana Gourgue said, “We urge the parents to please talk to your kids. Let them know to not cross the middle of the street, cross where there is light. Make sure they are using the proper crosswalk.”
