Substitute teacher arrested for racial slurs, trying to fight student in classroom

A substitute teacher was arrested after allegedly using racially charged language and attempting to provoke a fight with a 14-year-old student during a heated argument at Webb Middle School.

“This behavior is completely unacceptable, and this teacher will face the consequences of their actions,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said that on Tuesday at 9:35 a.m., a substitute teacher identified as BB and a 14-year-old boy got into a verbal argument.

According to the report, B, 26, used racially charged language during the dispute. The situation escalated when he attempted to provoke a fight and grabbed the boy’s cellphone out of his hands.

A video released by HCSO shows the heated confrontation. In it, B provokes the student, urging him to engage in a fight, pulling the student’s phone out of his hands, and the student eventually leaving the classroom.

Officials did not state what led to the altercation. Once it ended, the student quickly left the classroom and reported the incident to a school resource deputy.

B was arrested and faces charges of battery.
