A man was arrested after a couple fended him off during a home invasion, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.
Officers responded to reports of a home invasion robbery at the 7900 block of 72nd Way North.
When officers arrived, they found SH, 57, lying on the living room floor of the home with multiple stab wounds.
Both victims were also at the scene with injuries.
Officers began life-saving measures before medical personnel arrived. H was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
An investigation revealed that H came into the home and attempted to gain entry when one of the victims was home alone, officers said. The victim opened the door thinking it was the mailman, and Houpt entered the home, hitting her in the head before tying her up.
According to officers, H remained inside the home until the second victim came home.
When the second victim arrived, H attacked him, cutting him several times around his body.
During the altercation, the victim was able to use a weapon he got within the home to defend himself, and H was stabbed multiple times, officers said.
H was known to the victims as he had recently completed repairs to the home as a handyman.
According to Pinellas Park police, H is currently in stable condition. Once he is released, he will be transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
The two victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
H was charged with home invasion robbery, two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment.
