Suspected drunk driver causes chaos in Fort Myers, troopers say

A 21-year-old man is facing jail time and hefty fines after leading state troopers on a high-speed chase Thanksgiving Day, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, troopers attempted to stop a reckless driver on eastbound Daniels Parkway, near Treeline Avenue, in Fort Myers.

The Toyota Camry accelerated, clocked at speeds of 107 mph in a posted 45 mph zone, investigators said.

The car was allegedly weaving across travel lanes, traveling the wrong way and caused damage to three patrol cars.

The Toyota was finally stopped when troopers hit his car with their vehicles, called a “PIT maneuver,” to cause the Camry to crash.

The driver was identified as BDLz of Lehigh Acres.

Investigators say L had a blood alcohol content of .135 and had an alcoholic container inside the car.

L was booked into the Lee County Jail on multiple charges:

  • Fleeing and Eluding at High Speeds
  • DUI
  • DUI with Property Damage (three counts)
  • Reckless Driving with Property Damage (three counts)

L was also issued a $2,500 citation for a second offense of being a “super speeder” under Florida law for going 50 mph or more over the speed limit.
