Suspected DUI driver plows into side of Winter Haven building

A driver was suspected to be under the influence when they smashed a pickup truck into the side of a building in Winter Haven.

The Winter Haven Public Safety Department posted photos of the aftermath to Facebook, stating the crash happened at 635 6th Street Northwest at 1:15 p.m.

The driver was reported to be swerving through traffic, causing other drivers to dart out of the way, before the pickup plowed into the building. No one was inside of the business, but a worker was just feet away from the site of the crash.

Officials did not identify the driver, but said they “didn’t do too well with field sobriety tests” and was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared before being booked into the Polk County Jail.

Officials reminded residents to use a designated driver or rideshare, and to remember that AAA offers its free Tow-to-Go service through January 2. Drivers can contact AAA at 1-800-TOW-2-GO.
