Suspended driver with history of traffic violations arrested after two-vehicle crash

An Astatula man was arrested for recklessly driving with a suspended license after his involvement in a crash.

A trooper responded to a two-vehicle crash on County Road 561 in Lake County involving 55-year-old Paul Wayne Ballah around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Upon arrival, the trooper observed a gray Jeep Wrangler with damage to its front and a white Ford E-350 box truck with damage to its rear. The driver of the latter advised that he was stopped at a red light in the northbound lane when the crash occurred. Shortly after, he got out of his vehicle and began recording, the report said.

The video showed Ballah leaning on the left side of the Jeep, appearing to struggle to keep his balance. Lake County Fire Rescue ultimately transported him to the AdventHealth Minneola hospital, located at 1800 N Hancock Rd., Minneola, the report said.

A subsequent check of Ballah’s driving history revealed his privileges were suspended for refusing to submit to DUI testing on Jan. 16, 2025. His license was revoked on Sept. 10, 2025, for four or more DUIs. He had also been penalized for an unpaid traffic fine on March 17, 2025, the report said.

Ballah was arrested on charges of reckless driving and driving while license suspended. The Virginia native was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $15,000.
