Tampa man, dog killed while trying to help his girlfriend during crash

A Tampa man and his dog died after he responded to a car crash that his girlfriend was in over the weekend, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

On Saturday, a woman was involved in a two-vehicle crash on US-92, at the northbound entrance ramp to I-75.

FHP said the woman’s boyfriend, a 23-year-old Tampa man, came to the crash scene at her request, following the collision.

When the boyfriend got out of his car, his dog followed and ran into the roadway.

According to officials, the man tried to grab the Doberman but was struck by a 31-year-old Plant City woman driving a Honda CRV.

The dog died at the scene of the crash and the female driver was not injured.

However, the man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
