Teen arrested after shooting 17-year-old in ‘drug deal gone wrong

PARRISH, Fla. (WFLA)— A 16-year-old was arrested after shooting another teen in a “drug deal gone wrong,” the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office announced.

On Sunday, around 1:30 p.m., a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl drove to the pool in the Summerwoods subdivision in Parrish to buy narcotics.

MCSO said the two teens were in the vehicle when two other teens approached them before the boy shot the other boy in the left arm.

The two suspects then fled on foot, while the two victims drove away from the scene and flagged down a deputy for help.

The 17-year-old victim was airlifted to a Tampa hospital in critical condition.

During an investigation, deputies obtained surveillance video from the area, a perimeter was established in the neighborhood, and a K-9 unit was used to track the suspects.

Multiple residents called 911 in regards to two teenagers running through the neighborhood. One resident told deputies that a suspect fitting the description was behind their home in a wooded area and was seen throwing a backpack into the woods, deputies said.

Deputies located the backpack and found a handgun and clothing that matched the suspects’ initial outfits.

A K-9 tracked the two suspects to a nearby home, where deputies found the rear sliding glass door open.

The shooting suspect, identified as a 16-year-old boy, was located inside the home with a 15-year-old girl, MCSO said.

After several minutes, the two surrendered to deputies and were taken into custody.

The 16-year-old was charged with attempted murder and was transported to the Manatee Juvenile Booking Facility.

Deputies said the victim underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
