A 17-year-old girl was arrested Monday after police say she attacked a pregnant woman during a disturbance at a Boynton Beach home.
According to the Boynton Beach Police Department, officers responded on Jan. 19 to a battery call at a residence on Southwest Fourth Avenue. When they arrived, officers detained the suspect, identified as VW, who police said matched the description provided by dispatch and appeared agitated.
Police said the adult victim told officers she was trying to break up an altercation between W and a juvenile when she was struck in the face. The victim later reported she was kicked in the stomach and told officers she was about six months pregnant at the time. Officers noted the victim was visibly upset and crying.
Investigators also spoke with a juvenile witness, who reported that W became upset and held his head down to the point where he had difficulty breathing.
After being advised of her rights, W told officers she knew the victim was pregnant but said she did not care and would hit back if she believed she had been struck first. Police said W claimed she was also struck during the incident, but officers did not observe injuries consistent with that statement.
The victim’s husband also told police the victim was attempting to separate the two when she was struck.
Based on the investigation, police said there was probable cause to arrest W on charges of battery on a pregnant person and child abuse.
