Teen dies, others injured after driver flees attempted traffic stop in Winter Haven: Florida Highway Patrol

An Okeechobee teen is dead, and criminal charges are pending after a driver attempted to take off before crashing into the back of another vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP says troopers were attempting to stop a 2021 Kia Forte on Tuesday for excessive speed on US-27 in Winter Haven, when the 18-year-old driver fled from the attempted traffic stop.

While trying to take off from troopers, FHP says the Kia collided with the rear of a 2012 Ford E350.

The driver and his three passengers were all taken to an area hospital where the 13-year-old victim later died.
