An 18-year-old Atmore man was cited for careless driving following a multi-vehicle crash in Escambia County that left several people injured on Saturday.
Troopers say the incident occurred at approximately 5:25 p.m. on State Road 97.
According to FHP, the teenager was driving a Ford SUV northbound when he lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV veered into the southbound lanes, colliding with a passenger van driven by a 63-year-old Pensacola woman. The impact caused the SUV to continue northbound, striking three additional southbound vehicles before coming to rest on its right side, according to troopers.
The SUV’s driver and his 17-year-old passenger, also from Atmore, sustained serious injuries.
The van’s driver and her 87-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.
A 33-year-old woman and her 8-year-old passenger, both from Atmore, were in one of the sedans involved; the child sustained serious injuries while the driver had minor injuries.
Another sedan was driven by a 30-year-old man from Uriah, Alabama, who also sustained serious injuries.
All individuals involved were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have confirmed that all occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
