Teen driver dies after Orange County crash, Florida Highway Patrol. says

A 17-year-old Orlando boy died Sunday after rear-ending another driver and hitting a tree in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 3:23 a.m. on Landstar Boulevard, near Island Cove Drive, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the boy was driving a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and traveling southbound on Landstar Boulevard, approaching Island Cove Drive, when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and struck the rear of a southbound 2007 Honda CR-V being driven ahead of him by a 42-year-old Kissimmee man.

The Hyundai ran off the roadway onto the median and struck a tree, the report states.

The boy was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said. The man driving the Honda was not injured and stayed at the scene, according to the report.

Troopers believe the boy was not wearing a seat belt during the crash.

FHP is still investigating.
