Teen driver killed, 2 critically injured in Lake Placid ATV crash

A 19-year-old was killed in a crash between an ATV and a pickup truck on Saturday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened in Lake Placid at around 12:45 a.m.

The ATV, driven by a 19-year-old man with two passengers, an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old, was traveling southeast toward a stop sign on Washington Boulevard NE. At the same time, a pickup truck, driven by another 19-year-old Lake Placid man, was traveling south on Placid View Drive, approaching the intersection between the two roads.

The ATV turned left as the pickup approached, causing the front of the pickup to collide with the front driver’s side of the ATV.

The driver of the ATV was declared dead on the scene, while the two passengers were airlifted to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries in the crash.
