Teen driver pronounced dead at scene of crash in Lake County

A teen driver was pronounced dead early New Year’s Day at the scene of a crash in Lake County.

The 17-year-old from Clermont had been driving a 2003 Chevy S-10 pickup at 1:22 a.m. on County Road 474 near Hilochee Ridge Road when his vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The report noted he had not been wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.
