Teen girl shot, killed at a dance in South Florida

A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed during a dance in unincorporated Clewiston on Friday night.

The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said on October 11, dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots at 700 Harlem Tenants Circle. At the scene, Jayhana Johnson was unresponsive suffering from a gunshot wound. HCSO said the girl was later pronounced dead.

Investigators believe that the girl was struck by a stray bullet. Deputies, K-9 Units, and the Clewiston Police Department set up a perimeter and secured the scene.

The sheriff’s office said detectives are speaking to witnesses and following up on all possible leads. However, the sheriff’s office is asking anyone with leads in this case to come forward.
