Teen motorcyclist dies in Tampa crash

Teen motorcyclist dies in Tampa crash

A teenage motorcyclist died after being struck by a car in Tampa on Monday evening, the Tampa Police Department said.

The victim, identified only as a male in his late teens, was riding a 2008 Kawasaki on E Linebaugh Ave. at around 8:40 p.m., traveling east.

A man driving a 2023 BMW was traveling west on E Linebaugh Ave., and both motorists were approaching the intersection with N 14th St.

TPD said the driver of the BMW was making a left turn to head north on N 14th St. and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, colliding with the motorcyclist.

The teen was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives do not believe impairment played a role in the crash, though speed has not been ruled out as a contributing factor.

The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with detectives, and the investigation is ongoing, TPD said.
