Teen’s death investigated in Riviera Beach, police say

A homicide was being investigated Wednesday afternoon in Riviera Beach, police said.

A teenager was found dead in the 3300 block of Avenue J at about 2:30 p.m.

A WPTV news crew spotted the road blocked off with crime tape at the intersection with W 34th Street.

The scene is upsetting for long-term residents who said this is a step back for their neighborhood which has worked hard to combat violence.

“I just know this area used to be a very high crime area, it’s not as bad as it used to be but look it now, it’s a crime scene.”

“As a resident here what are your biggest questions you have seeing that there was a shooting happening here,” asked WPTV reporter Joel Lopez.

“There needs to be more outreach help in every aspect, we need the faith, we need the people that are willing to come out. We need to come together as a community. Keep our community safe.”

The name of the victim has not been released.

Riviera Beach police said detectives are still investigating.
