Tow truck driver charged in St. Pete crash that killed 2, left young boy injured

An arrest has been made in connection with an Oct. 15 crash that left two people dead and a young boy severely injured, St. Pete police said Tuesday.

According to the police department, GPA, a 45-year-old tow truck driver from Clearwater, was driving recklessly when he collided with an SUV at the intersection of 5th Avenue South and 22nd Street South.

The driver of the SUV, S D, and a passenger in her vehicle, D D, were both killed in the crash.

Authorities said D D’s 9-year-old grandson was also in the car. He was taken to All Children’s Hospital and, months later, continues to mend from the serious injuries he sustained in the crash, according to officials.

Police said A was taken into custody Tuesday on multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury.
