Traffic accident delays southbound Hwy 79 in Bay County

Traffic accident delays southbound Hwy 79 in Bay County

A traffic accident has caused a road block southbound on Highway 79 on Tuesday morning.

According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, drivers should expect delays on Hwy 79 and the West Hwy 388 area until further notice.

The collision involved a 47-year-old male driver from Freeport driving a pick-up truck and a 53-year-old male driver from Tallahassee in a semi-truck. The 47-year-old is reported to have critical injuries.

Authorities said the pick-up truck was traveling southbound on State Road 79 and failed to observe the semi-truck stopped at the intersection meeting State Road 388. This action caused the front of the pick-up to collide with the rear of the semi’s trailer. Both vehicles came to final rest in the area of collision, facing southbound on the inside lane of State Road 79.
