Traffic Alert: All lanes reopen on U.S. Highway 301 following brush fire, traffic crash

All roadways have reopened after a brush fire and a traffic crash caused multiple lane closures along NE U.S. Highway 301 Sunday, officials from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office say.

Units from the Alachua County Fire Rescue, Melrose Fire Rescue and Windsor Fire Rescue responded to the scene of a brush fire off NE U.S. Highway 301 south of County Road 1474, where one southbound lane was closed.

Firefighters say they were able to quickly protect nearby structures, and the Florida Division of Forestry was able to contain the fire to about five acres before it was fully extinguished.

Deputies say they also responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of County Road 1469 that caused a serious injury and closed all northbound lanes

Officials ask that drivers move over when emergency crews are operating along roadways.
