All northbound lanes of I-295 are blocked Wednesday morning because of a deadly crash on the Dames Point Bridge.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue initially said that one person was trapped with critical injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol later said the crash, which was first reported at 4:47 a.m., was fatal.
JFRD said the crash involved four vehicles, but no one else was hurt.
Drivers will need to exit I-295 at Merrill Road and find alternate routes across the river.
The St. Johns River Ferry is one option to bypass the bridge. Or drivers can take Merrill Road to University Boulevard and make their way to the Mathews Bridge to cross into Downtown.
