TRAFFIC ALERT: Woman killed in I-4 crash at Lee Road near Winter Park; interstate remains closed.

A 32-year-old Davenport woman was killed and a 50-year-old Orlando woman was seriously injured early Tuesday in a crash that has prompted the closure of Interstate 4 in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal wreck happened around 4:35 a.m. on I-4 east at Lee Road near Winter Park.

The FHP said the crash involved a 2019 Kia Optima and a 2021 Nissan Altima, but the sequence of events leading to the wreck are still under investigation.

The Davenport woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers, who said the Orlando woman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Eastbound lanes of I-4 are backed up in the area and drivers must exit at Lee Road, Fairbanks Avenue or Princeton Street. Express lanes of I-4 are open, but drivers would have to access those near John Young Parkway.

Drivers heading further east should consider taking State Road 408 to northbound State Road 417, according to Trooper Steve.
