A 30-year-old woman has died after investigators say she was struck by a car on the Florida Turnpike in North Lauderdale.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident happened on Tuesday, November 21, at 12:48 a.m.
FHP says for reasons still under investigation, the woman was standing along the outside paved shoulder of the southbound lanes of the Turnpike, near Commercial Boulevard.
While the woman was standing along the shoulder of the highway, a Hyundai Kona was driving on the inside travel lane. According to the crash report, the woman suddenly darted into the path of the Hyundai. The driver was unable to maneuver around the woman and the SUV collided into her.
FHP says the woman was thrown off her feet, landing face up on the inside paved shoulder.
The woman was pronounced dead by Tamarac Fire Rescue personnel due to her injuries.
The case is still active and ongoing, the crash report states.
