A driver was rescued and taken to a local hospital after becoming trapped inside an overturned vehicle near a St. Lucie County intersection on Monday.

The St. Lucie County Fire District said its crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover near the intersection of Glades Cut Off Road and Selvitz Road on July 20. When firefighter-paramedics arrived, they found the vehicle resting in a ditch with one occupant trapped inside.

Rescuers worked to safely extricate the individual from the wreckage. According to the fire district, crews used a Stokes basket, a specialized rescue stretcher designed to safely transport patients across difficult terrain, to remove the occupant from the ditch after the extrication.

The occupant was then transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. Officials have not released the extent of the person’s injuries.

Authorities did not provide details on what led to the crash. The St. Lucie County Fire District thanked responding agencies for their teamwork and coordinated efforts during the rescue operation.

No additional information was immediately available.
